Biodiesel: Driven to Grow

 This year, biodiesel celebrates its 25th anniversary, but the industry is not done growing yet! Hear the latest on federal programs like the Renewable Fuel Standard and the Federal Tax Credit, learn how ASTM standards are evolving to better serve the petroleum industry, hear the latest updates about biodiesel developments in the Midwest, and check out the newest diesel vehicle models.  

 Steve Howell is president and founder of M4 Consulting, a firm dedicated to the development of industrial products from agriculture. He serves as Senior Technical Advisor for the National Biodiesel Board and is the lead technical liaison between the biodiesel industry and the engine and equipment manufacturers. Howell is currently chairman of the ASTM task force on biodiesel standards and plays a liaison role for biodiesel standards development with both ISO and CEN.  He is a Fellow of both ASTM and AOCS.

Rick Long, executive vice president and general counsel of PEI, the trade association that represents equipment manufacturers, distributors, contractors and fuel marketing professionals, will give his take on what it all means. Come hear how business is doing in key market segments, where today’s biggest opportunities and dangers lie—and, most important of all, what the future might hold.

Rick Long is Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI). Rick also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the TulsaLetter and publisher of the PEI Journal. He is a member of the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) Technical Committee on Vehicular Alternative Fuels.

Prior to joining PEI in 2009 as General Manager and Associate General Counsel, Rick owned and operated a Tulsa-based firm that provided marketing, communications and strategic services for leading for-profit organizations and non-profit associations, including PEI.  During his career, he has written hundreds of articles advising large and small businesses on management, marketing, legal issues and technical matters.

Rick earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree, with high honors, from Southern Methodist University, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Juris Doctorate degree, with honors, from the University of Texas in Austin. Before entering the world of communications and association management, Rick practiced law in Tulsa.
